Could the crisis affect Spanish tourism?

Crisis, crisis, crisis.... is all you can read and listen these days in the news, the streets, the market... But, what about tourism? What about our tourism? Do you think there will be a crisis also in Spanish tourism? Do you think there could be some kind of change of preferences?

Have a look at this rather optimist article and try to give your opinion using the writing gidelines found in page 42 from your book.

  1. I think that the article is very optimistic and not realistic at all. The current crisis is going to affect all countries and people is going to hava to quit some expenses, that will count for the things that we don't really need and one of them is travelling around or spend holidays abroad. Maybe Barcelona and Catalonia will be benefited by more Spanish tourist that will change an abroad destination for a national one, but tourist from another countries will choose cheaper pleces like old Soviet Union countries.

  2. Hi Itziar,

Good, but, don't you think that flights to vary far places like Moscow or China could be even more expensive at the same time? I know, once there, hotels and life in general will be cheaper, what what about the new price of flying companies these days? Don't you think that finding bargains in now more difficult than last year, for instance?

  3. I THINK ALL OF YOU ARE RIGHT BUT I COME FROM COUNTRY WHERE THE CRISIS IS SOMETHING HAPENING EVERY SINGLE DAY.BULGARIA.AND I CAN SAY THAT IS NOT SO IMPORTANT BECAUSE EVERYBODY WANT TO SPEND SOME DAYS IN THE SUMMER AND I AGREE THAT THE CRISIS INFLUE IN THE TOURISM MAYBE THE TOURISM ANG THE DIFFERENT AGENCIES AND COMPANIES HAVE TO OFFER A INTERESTING PRICE AND DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES.I BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE DON'T LEAVE TO TRAVEL MAYBE IT'S VERY OPTIMISTIC BUT i THING THERE IS NOTHING BETTER TO SPENG SOME DAYS ABROAD AND NOW THE DIFFERENT AIRCOMPANIES HAVE VERY REDUCED PRICES THAT DO THE TRIP MORE CHIP.I BELIEVE THAT ALL THE PEOPLE WILL SURVIVE THE CRISIS WITHOUT MAKING of THE TOURISM SOMETHING FORGOTTEN.

  4. In my opinion we are not aware completely about the crisis that politicians, experts and news are informing everyday. Maybe because altought there are sectors affected by it as Construction eight months ago, The Current Crisis will not affect directly on domestic economy until some months later. Of course, I think that tourism sector will be affect and we will not be able to spend so money in free time that last years in general...due to the recession.

  6. From my point of view crisis has already arrived to the Spanish tourism because as it is a global crisis, foreing visitors who used to visit Spain nowadys are choosing other sunny destinations that are cheaper, for example, Tunisia and Turkey.

Visitors have changed their preferences because in their countries they have a bad financial situation as well. If they come to Spain, they stay a shorter period than they used to stay before, instead of a fortnight they stay only a week and that is not good at all for the Spanish tourism.
